Sports Lessons

Manor Lodge has an amazing range of facilities that are used throughout the year. These include:

  • Sports fields for hockey/lacrosse/football/rugby
  • An all-weather cricket square
  • An all-weather court
  • Three indoor areas for dance and general sports lessons
  • A changing pavilion for girls and boys
  • Long jump pit
  • High jump bed

In the summer term, the pitches are modified to make room for a 300 metres athletics track and cricket and rounders pitches.  Overall, sport plays an important role in school life at Manor Lodge and as a department we aim to ensure that all children are given the opportunity to share in the many positive facets of physical education.  We offer an inclusive education that focuses on the holistic development of the child, one that incorporates not only skill acquisition, but the building of confidence, competition and cooperation with others.  From Nursery to Year 6, pupils have two PE and Games lessons every week.  In Year 3, as well as PE and Games, children also receive swimming coaching at Westminster Lodge swimming pool in St Albans. Pupils are placed in four ability groups by qualified and experienced coaches. The lesson is 30 minutes long and the children are taught the four main swimming strokes, it also includes some life saving for those children in the top group.
