English Primary Schools Chess Association National Championships 2017
On Sunday 26th February Manor Lodge travelled to the Hall school to take part in the first stage of the ‘English Primary Schools Chess Association National Championships’. This is the largest school’s chess team event in the country with over 300 teams taking part. We took two teams to compete, an under 11 team and an under 9 team. Both teams had 6 players in.
Our zone was very strong including two of the top 8 teams in the country from last year.
It was a fantastic day for all involved and a great chance for our seasoned players to try out the latest moves they had been practicing. Both teams performed fantastically and by the end of the day our under 11 team finished in 3rd place from 8 teams and our under 9 team finished in 4th place out of 10 teams. Both teams have now qualified to the semi-final stage and we will be training hard to get ready in time for our trip to Bristol on May 13th.
Manor Lodge Hosts 6th Annual Chess Competition
A report from our coach, Tony:
On Sunday 27th November 2016 Manor Lodge School was once again the superb setting to host a qualifying round to the London Junior Chess Champions. We held three different ages groups and had 100 children taking part. Some had come from as far as Nottingham just to be there! Competition was of the highest standard and we even had England internationals in attendance! For many it was a great insight to the world of competitive chess and the top players have now progressed to the finals to be held in December. We wish them luck.
