Manor Lodge School cares passionately about our environment and is very proud to be an Eco School. We were awarded the Green Flag, the highest award for Eco Schools, for the first time in 2011 and have renewed it 3 times since, most recently in November 2017.
The school has an Eco Team made up of children from Years 2-6 who elect their own Chair and Secretary and meet regularly to discuss ideas for recycling, reducing and re-using, make decisions about areas to focus on, monitor results and help create a whole-school action plan. The team also has adult members in the form of teachers, the Bursar and a former parent who brings expertise from the University of Hertfordshire.
As an Eco School (http://www.eco-schools.org.uk/) we are part of an international group of schools working towards education for sustainable development within local and global communities. We believe passionately that we need to care for our environment and that our children are the ones who will be most affected in the future by our actions today.
The scheme is rooted in a desire to help our children become effective citizens by encouraging them to take responsibility for the future of their own environment and ultimately our planet. It helps us look at the impact of our school and grounds upon the environment and how this can be managed.
