Horrid Pigs and Lovely Wolves!? We have had a very mixed up story week with our alternative fairy tales. These stories have been a great focus for our writing of character profiles and making up our own alternative fairy tale. Some of the story characters, such as the 3 Little Pigs and 3 Billy Goats Gruff have been very helpful in counting objects that are in an irregular arrangement. How can we count accurately? The role play area has been a building site for the 3 Little Pigs to build their strongest house on. All sorts of construction materials and equipment were used and hard hats were a must! Outside we had the stage up for the children to make up their own play of an alternative fairy tale, this promoted lots of great language and team planning. Some of the children also made a bridge for the Billy Goats Gruff to cross and try not to get eaten by the troll! In the maths area we used shapes to make our own character from a fairy tale, construction materials to make small houses and weaved baskets for Little Red Riding Hood. These all helped with our imagination concentration and fine motor skills. The water tray had a bridge across it with a Troll in the water and the sand was wet to build our own castles in. A really fun week has been had by everyone.
