We have been reading the traditional tales of Jack and the Beanstalk and The Three Little Pigs. The children have created their own interpretations of the various characters, role playing during child initiated play. We have learnt about growth from planting magic beans, how many beans will they need to make a beanstalk and using ‘magic beans’ with the pegs and boards to create repeated patterns.
We investigated change in the environment with lemons and limes (l for the sound of the week) in ice, how and why has the ice appeared? The children watched change occur in texture and colour with shaving foam, food dye and toothbrushes to mix and see new shades of red, blue to create purple! We explored in hay and sticks to find various cvc words and other high frequency words which link to the traditional tales!
