Year 3 visit Celtic Harmony Camp

On Wednesday 30th September, Year 3 visited the Celtic Harmony Camp in Hertford. We were welcomed into the camp by a family of Celts who made us feel at home with blue spiral face paint! We were taken back 2000 years ago with a whole range of hands on activities that really gave the children a sense of what it would have been like to live in Celtic times.

After a brief introduction in the round house, the children were asked to help make the chieftain a pair of winter trousers! This involved them taking the raw wool, carding it, turning it into thread and then even had the chance to weave with it. They didn’t quite complete a whole pair of trousers but almost! They also all made and dyed Celtic style bracelets. The day didn’t end there! On a woodland walk, the children searched for mushrooms, hunted with sticks and learnt a great deal about the herbs and plants in the herb garden. It was fascinating to find out what the marshmallow plant was used for in those days!

Overall, it was a fantastic day that was thoroughly enjoyed by all!

These are some of the photographs we took.
