Year 2 Violin Workshop
On Wednesday 27th January 2010 Year 2 pupils took part in a violin workshop led by Donna and Charles Chapman. Both are professional violinists and Charles played in the orchestra for the soundtrack of the “Star Wars” films and “Superman”.
They performed a wide selection of music ranging from Tudor times to modern day including “Greensleeves” and the new music for “Thomas the Tank Engine”.
Donna explained how violins have been made in the same way for hundreds of years and the children were interested to hear how the intestines of a sheep and a horse’s tail are used for various parts of the violin!
At the end of the session, pupils were given the opportunity to try out a small size violin to see if it is something they would like to learn to play.
