Art at Manor Lodge

Art and design is taught throughout the school by either a class teacher or a specialist. Children are given the opportunity to work as a class, as part of a group or as individuals. Art and Design is taught through a combination of direct teaching, providing children with real experience, use of a wide variety of resources, the work of other artists and educational visits. This subject provides opportunities to use a range of media, tools and techniques.

Topics include colour theory, life drawing, portraits, materials and these will be taught using a range of media. The many movements in Art such as impressionism and expressionism will be introduced through silk painting, collage and clay. Pupils will explore the history of Art and other cultures such as the Aborigines. Art and Design is also widely linked with other curriculum areas including ICT used for research and design.

Pupils will be able to represent individual observations and explore ideas for different purposes. In our teaching of Art and Design, we aim to develop the confidence, value and pleasure in this subject.

The slideshow gives examples of work produced by our pupils, from Reception to Year 6.
